Friday 26th January 2024
Regretfully, we have made the decision to close the school tomorrow (Friday 26th January 2024).
We received an update from an engineer that the large mains was not the issue, but a sub-branch which was found to be the cause, once everything was switched off. The sub-branch is due to be repaired tonight and the engineer thinks the repairs tonight shouldn’t affect the mains, however there was no guarantee. We have sought further advice from the Thames Water Help Desk who state that they have no record of the problem and therefore we have no guarantee that the works will not affect the school. The support from the help desk was no help at all and this does not give me much confidence.
It was hoped that if we were able to receive confirmation in the morning that the works were complete and we are not going to be affected, then we would have contacted you first thing to let you know school is open. As this does not seem to be the case, I am not willing to risk an incident like today, where the children come into school and then we have to close later in the day. This causes a lot of disruption for both parents, pupils and staff, which we would like to avoid.
I have not made this decision lightly, and have sought advice from our governors and local headteachers.
Online learning will be available from 9:30am tomorrow on Google Classroom.
Whilst I appreciate that this causes you some disruption, by letting you know this evening will allow you time to put plans in place, rather than be called out in the day.
Thank you for your patience in this matter.
We will update you about Monday, but believe that everything should be back to normal by then.
