Spellings and Times Tables - Sycamore
Spelling tests take place every Monday morning, accompanied by a times tables and division test.
Monday, 14th December
The next spelling test will take place the first day back after Christmas break. It will be a large spelling test, consisting of the entire set of Year 5 common exception words (located at the bottom of this page as an attachment), which will help to identify which words are proving most difficult for children to spell. Please practise them over the break, as this will be your only homework during this time.
Monday, 7th December
These are a selection from the Year 5 common exception words.
Monday, 30th November
Words this week are all about frequency.
Monday, 23rd November
Words this week have '-ment' endings. Be aware of the silent letters!
Monday, 16th November
These are all examples of modal verbs. They are relatively easy, but they are a requirement for all Year 5 children to know.
(the following are not modal verbs)
Monday, 9th November
This week's spellings focus again on silent letters.
Tuesday, 3rd November
This week's spellings all include silent letters. Please make sure to practise them in preparations for Monday's spelling test.
Monday, 19th October 2020
The spelling test when children return after the half term break will be a collection of Common Exception Words chosen at random from the list attached below. Please take a few moments to go over the list, and practise some of the words that you find especially tricky. We will do the spelling test on the Tuesday, 3rd November, as Monday is an INSET day, and children aren't at school.
Monday, 12th October 2020
This week's spellings are homophones again - just like last week. Once again, children are encouraged to learn the meaning and definition of the words, as I will be using the word in a sentence to allow the children to decide which of the pair of homophones to spell.
