Good Morning Acorns,

Thank you for your wonderful under the sea pictures. We thought your Bottlenose dolphins were amazing! Well done Acorns.

This week we have been learning all about dolphins. Share the ‘Dolphins and Pollution’ PowerPoint with your grown-up and discuss. Imagine you are a dolphin living in the sea, would you like it if people dropped rubbish into your home?  Draw a large dolphin and then a large speech bubble.  What might your dolphin say? For example, "Don’t pollute my water" or "Please don’t drop your rubbish into my home". You may want to think about the fishermen/fisherwomen and what the dolphins might say to them.  For example, "Be careful with your fishing nets, you might hurt me" or "Please don't let us get stuck in your fishing nets".

In Maths, we will count back 1, 2 and 3 from numbers up to 20. You will need to make a pegged number line to 20 using a washing line and pegs and number cards from number 1 to 20. We have allocated number cards on Active Learn if you would like to use these instead. This is an example of the activity.  You can use any toys at home for this activity.  Count out 15 marbles.  Now you are going to take away three marbles.  Hold up three fingers. This is how many you are going to take away.

Separate three marbles from the 15, then move them to the right as you count back, fourteen, thirteen, twelve. Children fold down one finger with each marble moved and join the counting back.  Agree the answer. Twelve marbles left. Write in your home learning book: 15 − 3 = 12 .

Repeat, choosing numbers from 8 to 20. Then move one, two or three marbles one at a time, counting back using your fingers. Record all the subtraction number sentences in your home learning book.

We are going to think about mosaic art. A mosaic is an artistic technique that uses tiny parts to create a whole image or object. Mosaics are usually assembled using small tiles that are made of glass, stone, or other materials. On Purple Mash, can you create a poly-mosaic picture of a dolphin? We look forward to seeing your mosaic pictures!

It is really important to celebrate diversity. We are all unique and special. What makes you special? Share the ‘Similarities and Differences’ PowerPoint and discuss. There are discussion cards attached if you would like to look at these. Afterwards, draw a picture of yourself and a friend in your home learning book. How are you similar? How are you different? Ask your adult to write what you say next to your picture.

We have attached the ‘Keywords’ PowerPoint again for you to practise your keyword recognition. It is important to practise reading these words daily.
