Good Morning Acorns,
It has been wonderful to see your lovely paintings showing how you have been a helpful friend. The Acorn Class are very kind and caring.
We are going to continue thinking about friendship today. You have thought about a time when you have helped someone. Now we have a lovely story demonstrating the importance of helping others. Read ‘Not too Little to Help’ by Margaret Hillert. This is the link you will need: https://www.starfall.com/h/ir-fnf/toolitt/?sn=ir-fnf--im-reading Did you enjoy the story? Can you explain what the story is about? Were you able to read the keywords? Which words did you find tricky?
In Literacy, we will be reflecting on the type of things people might do at the seaside. Look at yesterday’s PowerPoint again with your grown-up showing the different beach activities. Reflect on how each word has an ‘i’ and then ‘ng’ at the end of the word. For example, swimming or fishing. Can you think of any other words? For example, the word ‘sing’ or ‘skipping’. Write a list of 6 words in your home learning book. You will need to use your phonics to help spell new words. Make sure you form your letters cursively.
In Maths, we will be thinking about money and learning how to make different amounts. We will count on two, three or four pennies. You will need 20 pennies for this activity and a tin or money box. You can always use a clear plastic container. Place the tin on a table. Count in five pennies. How much is in the tin? Show this on your fingers. Drop in two more pennies, saying, six, seven. Now there are seven pennies in the tin. Write in your home learning book: 5 + 2 = 7 Show seven fingers. Put two more pennies into the tin. Now put up two more fingers to show the new total. Write the addition number sentence in your home learning book. This time drop in three more pennies, one by one as you say, ten, eleven, twelve. What addition can we write now? Make sure you form your numbers carefully.
Our current topic is all about the sea. This week we have been learning about the types of activities that people may do at the beach. Some people might go sailing. Can you design your own boat on Purple Mash? Can you give your boat a name? See if you can use your phonics to help type a label for your picture.
In RE, we have been talking about our experiences of friendship. Today, we will be learning about a special rule. First, we would like you to listen to a lullaby. This is the link you will need: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p9diFwUly4M Can you explain what this lullaby was about? Yes, it was all about Jesus’ rule ‘To love one another and forgive one another’. Can you listen to the song again and put some actions to go with the song.
How can you show love? Discuss the different ways you can show love to someone else. For example, to show kindness to others. Can you create a heart to represent Jesus’ rule to love one another? Depending on the resources you have at home, you can use card, tissue paper and other materials to create your heart. You may prefer to paint a heart or use your imagination and create a rainbow heart!
We hope you have a fantastic day. Remember to say a big thank you to your grown-up for helping you at home today.
