Acorn Daily Planner - 01.06.20

Monday 1st June 2020

Good Morning Acorns,

We hope you had a great half-term. The weather has been glorious and we hope you’ve had time to relax and enjoy being with your family. Last term, we reflected on technology used at home. We were really interested to see the different television programmes you like to watch. The paintings show how everyone is continuing to develop their technological skills. Keep up the super work Acorns!

Now we begin the second half of the summer term and we will be continuing with the daily blog. Today we begin an exciting new topic and it is all about the sea. In Literacy, we will be listening to a story called The Rainbow Fish by Marcus Pfister. This is the link you will need: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QFORvXhub28

Listen to the story with your grown-up and discuss. How did the little blue fish feel? Why was he sad? Have you ever felt like that? Reflect on how Rainbow Fish shared his scales with the other fish. How did he feel afterwards? Yes, happy. Try and think of new and interesting vocabulary. For example, words such as, jolly, cheerful, delighted, elated, joyful and jubilant. Can you write a list of words in your home learning book to describe how he felt? If you have used all of the pages in your home learning book, then you have been completing all of the challenges and you’re a super-star. Please don’t worry, you can always do this task on paper and then attach it to your home learning book.

In Maths today, we will be counting on and back from any number up to 20. Practise counting aloud up to 20. Then count back from 20 to 0. If you have found counting back from 20 to 0 a little tricky, please practise again. Grown-ups please give lots of praise and encouragement, this can be challenging for young children. We have attached a number track for you to use at home if your child needs a little extra support.

For the next activity, you will need a set of number cards from 0 to 20. You can use the number cards you have used in previous activities or you can make your own. If you can make a pegged number line from 0  to 20 by using a washing line and pegs and some home-made number cards that would be fantastic. If you do not have a washing line, you can lay the number cards on the floor.

We will be counting on and back from any number. Use the pegged number line to count to 20 and back. Ask your grown-up to choose a number. Count back from this number to 0 and then count on from this number to 20. Repeat several times. Now swap roles with your grown-up! Choose a number and ask your grown-up to count back from this number to 0 and then count on from this number up to 20.  Happy learning together!

The Acorn Class know the importance of sharing and taking turns. At home, you have been sharing with your family. Reflect on today’s new story. Think about a time when you have shared with another child. Draw a picture of your toy/object and write an accompanying label in your home learning book. Remember to use your phonics to help spell new words.

To celebrate the start of our new topic, we would like you to think about various types of fish.  Fish can live in the sea, rivers, lakes and ponds.  Some people have fish in their home as pets. Share the Power Point attached with your grown-up and think about which fish interest you. Which fish is your favourite? Are there any fish that look similar to Rainbow Fish? Think about the Rainbow Fish story. Can you create your own Rainbow Fish on Purple Mash? Which colours will you use? We look forward to seeing your creations!

We hope you have a wonderful day.  Remember to say thank you to your grown-up for helping you at home.  Keep smiling!
