Good Morning Acorns,

It has been wonderful to see your delicious food on Purple Mash. We may have some new chefs in the future! We have some exciting challenges for you to complete at home.

Reading is a life skill. We want all the children at St Peter and St Paul Catholic Primary Academy to become confident readers. Today we will be practising to read simple keywords in a sentence. The Acorn Class are very good readers!

See if you can read the simple keywords independently. You might be able to recognise some words by sight. You may need to use your phonics to help read some other words. We want you to enjoy reading the story so please just try your best. If you are struggling to read some of the words, it just means you need a little more practise. Afterwards, please discuss the story with your grown-up. Where did Dragon go to? What did Dragon see at the farm? What did they eat at the farm? Have you been to a farm?

In Maths, we will be learning to recognise oʼclock times and know roughly when things happen during the day. Please look at the time sheets attached. See if you can say the correct o’clock time. Remember the smaller hand on a clock is the hour hand. The longer hand on a clock is the minute hand.  There is no need to print the sheets.

For the next part of this activity, you will need to use pages from your home learning book or you can use 3 pieces of paper. On one piece of paper write the word ‘morning’. Then write 'afternoon' on another sheet and ‘evening’ on the third sheet of paper.

Discuss what sort of things we do at each of these times. What do you like to do in the morning? What do we all do at night? Draw things you usually do in the morning, afternoon and evening. For example, you could draw a picture of yourself eating breakfast in the morning. We would be really happy if you could write the time next to your picture. For example, if you have dinner at 5 o’clock, see if you can write 5 o’clock next to your drawing. Remember to form your numbers clearly.

Our current topic is all about space. Please share the PowerPoint attached with your grown-up. It is all about astronauts. What is an astronaut? Can you draw a picture of an astronaut in your home learning book? If you can write a label for your picture that would be great. 

To be able to solve mathematical problems is really important. Playing with puzzles is a great way to develop your mathematical skills. We have some exciting puzzles for you to complete on Purple Mash. There are two different puzzles for you to enjoy. One puzzle has a space theme!
