Friday 24th April 2020

Good Morning Acorns,

We hope you have enjoyed doing your family portraits and we will look forward to seeing them soon. Today we have some new challenges for you to complete.

In Literacy, we will be practising our speaking and listening skills. To continue with our Space theme, we would like you to think about rockets and spaceships. With your grown-up’s support, can you look at pictures of different types of rockets and spaceships? Or you could share an information book about space with your grown-up. Why is this a non-fiction book? Reflect on how it is giving us information. Talk about the information you have found out about rockets.  Which is your favourite rocket? Can you talk about your favourite rocket and explain why it is your favourite? Why do you like it? Encourage use of precise descriptive language.

We are getting really good at estimating! Today, we have another fun activity. You will need five sets of different everyday objects and cover each set with a different cloth or tea-towel. Please ask your grown-up to help you organise the activity.  Each set should have a different number of objects up to 20. We would like you to estimate how many objects there are under the cloth. You must not count. You should feel the pile of objects through the cloth then write your estimates in your home learning book. Are there more than ten or less than ten? Then remove the cloth and see if you would like to make a new estimate or stick to your first estimate. Count the objects to check. Did you make a good estimate?  Repeat the process with the other piles of objects.

Previously we have been thinking about how much God and Jesus love us and our family. Recently, many people have become unwell due to the Coronavirus. Can you write a short prayer asking God to help those who are poorly? Please write your prayer in your home learning book.  Remember to use your phonics to help spell new words.

At home, you will have favourite toys that you like to play with. If you had to design a toy, what would it be? On Purplemash, can you design your own toy robot or doll? If you want to be a Superstar and design both toys, that is great!

Thank you for all your hard work this week. We hope you have a wonderful weekend.

Keep smiling!

Mrs Sanford and Miss Williamson
