Good Morning Acorns,

We hope you had a wonderful weekend. This is our last week before the summer holiday begins. You have worked so hard during the online learning period and we are so proud of you! This week we will be revisiting prior learning by making sure you are really confident about certain skills before you embark on the next step of your educational journey. If you find anything a little tricky, then this is something you need to practise at home.

On Friday, we listened to a story called 'The Storm Whale'. Did you enjoy this story? Listen to the story again with your grown-up. This is the link you will need:   At the end of the story, the little boy returned the whale to the ocean, its natural habitat. Imagine, you live in the sea. Which sea animal would you be? Can you draw a picture of your sea animal and write an accompanying label?  Remember to use your phonics to help write new words.

Today we will be learning about seahorses.  Share this video about 'Seahorses' with your grown-up.  This is the link you will need: Did you learn something new?  Seahorses are fascinating fish.  Please look at the 'Seahorses' PowerPoint with your grown-up and discuss.

We will be practising our keyword recognition.  Please share the 'Keywords' PowerPoint with your grown-up.  How many keywords can you recognise by sight?  Choose one word.  Write a sentence containing this word.  For example, if you choose the word 'have', you might write, I have a dog.  Then select a different keyword and repeat the task.  Remember to include a capital letter, finger spaces and a full stop. 

In Maths, we would like you to practise counting by using 1:1 correspondence and recognising numbers up to 20.  For this activity, you will need to use the number cards from 1-20 you have used in previous activities.  We have attached number cards for you to use at home if you would prefer to use these instead.  You will need to use some objects from around your home for this task.  Please ask your grown-up for permission before using any objects.  

Select a number and then go and find this amount of objects.  Make sure you count the objects carefully by using 1:1 correspondence.  This means pointing to each object as you count.  Place the correct number card next to the pile of objects.  Now select another number and then hurry to find this amount of objects.  Keep going until you have used all of your number cards.  Did you find this easy or tricky?  

We have been practising how to write numbers up to 20 and beyond.  Particular numbers can be tricky to form correctly.  Please think about which numbers you find challenging to write and then practise writing these number in your home learning book.  For example, you may practise forming number 4 and 5 correctly.  You might find it challenging to form two digit-numbers, so you may decide to focus on numbers from 10-20 or 20-30.  

Watch this video about different types of seahorses.  This is the link you will need:  Do you think you could create a seahorse? It can be a collage of a seahorse or a painting. If you have play-dough at home, you may want to create a model of a seahorse.

If you want to finish the day with a little calming yoga, this is the link you will need:  The story today is called 'Tommy the Bedtime Turtle'.  A perfect activity for our sea topic!
