Wednesday 17th June 2020

Good Morning Acorns,

We hope you have enjoyed learning about the different types of sharks. Today we will be continuing with our sea topic!

Let's begin the day with a fun song called 'Under the Sea'. This is the link you will need: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GC_mV1IpjWA  We would like you to practise your speaking and listening skills.  Imagine what it might be like to live under the sea. What might you see? Discuss and share thoughts with your grown-up.  Can you draw a picture to show your underwater ideas?

In Literacy, we have been learning about different types of sharks.  Watch the video about Hammerhead Sharks.  This is the link you will need: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D2JDdNIabY4  Can you remember any facts about Hammerhead Sharks?  Then examine the Shark Facts PowerPoint with your grown-up and discuss. Today, we would like you to look at the picture of each shark and use your phonics to help read the description.  Can you read each sentence aloud?  Discuss the different facts.

Afterwards, choose one shark to focus on.  Draw the shark in your home learning book and write a fact about this shark.  For example, Tiger sharks are big and strong.  Remember to use your phonics to help spell new words.  Make sure you form your letters cursively.

In Maths, we will be learning to recognise coins and make small amounts. Look at each of the 1p, 2p, 5p, 10p and 20p coins on the PowerPoint again. Can you quickly recognise each coin? Now look at the Money PowerPoint about pennies and discuss. With your grown-up talk about how 2p is the same as two 1p coins.  In your home learning book, draw a 2p coin. Then underneath, draw how many pennies there are in 2p. We have attached an example for you to look at with your grown-up.  Draw a 5p coin.  How many pennies are there in 5p?  Draw 5 pennies.  Repeat task with a 10p and 20p coin.  Please draw your pennies carefully.

We are going to practise blending letter sounds together to read simple words. We have attached the Green word PowerPoint again. Try and sound out as many words as you can within 10 minutes.

It is time to get creative!  Reflect on the different types of sharks we have been learning about.  Can you paint a picture of a shark?  Which shark will you choose to paint?  Will it be the Hammerhead shark or the Basking shark?  You can choose any shark to paint.  If you prefer, you can use colouring pencils or felt-tip pens instead of paint.  Try and think about the shape and size of the shark.  You will need to choose appropriate colours.

Now we have an exciting activity on Purple Mash for you to do.  Imagine, you have turned into a fish, what would you look like?  What type of fish would you be?  Can you draw a picture of what you would look like as a fish!  We look forward to seeing your fish.

Why not finish the day with a great story!  Listen to the story called The Snail and the Whale by Julia Donaldson.  This is the link you will need: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hheolVGZVvs  We hope you enjoy the story.

Would you like to listen to some relaxing ocean music? Perhaps, you might want to play some peaceful music when it is time to rest. This is the link you will need: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eSRj847AY8U

We hope you have a great day. Keep smiling!
