Good Morning Acorns,

It has been wonderful to see your fantastic sea creatures. Thank you for your hard work at home. Today, we have some new exciting activities for you to complete.

In Literacy, we will be continuing to learn about sea creatures. Can you name different sea creatures? We have a wonderful video that gives you information about sea creatures. Please share this video with your grown-up and discuss. This is the link you will need: Which sea creature did you find most interesting? Which sea creature would you like to find out more information about? Reading information books is a great way to learn new and interesting facts about a topic.

Choose one sea creature. Draw a picture of this sea creature in your home learning book. Then write a sentence about this sea creature. Remember to use your phonics to help spell new words. Make sure you use a capital letter, finger spaces and a full stop at the end of your sentence.

In Maths, we will be subtracting 2, 3 or 4 by counting back. You will need a set of number cards up to 20, a dice, paper and pencils. You will need to make a pegged number line by placing number cards on a washing line from 1-20. Alternatively, you can lay number cards on the floor. Draw a picture of a large bus with 10 passengers sitting on a bus.

10 people are sitting on a bus. Show 10 fingers. Roll the dice and the number shown on the dice is the number of people who are going to get off the bus, e.g. two. Now two people get off. How many now? Show this on your fingers. Ask your grown-up to write on a piece of paper: 10 − 2 = 8 and read it together. Ten take away two equals eight or ten subtract two equals eight. Point to 10 on the washing line and model counting back two, saying, nine, eight. Ten count back two is eight. Write this subtraction number sentence in your home learning book.

Repeat, rolling the dice, and asking that number of people to leave the bus one by one. Fold down a finger for each count back. Model the subtraction on the washing line and record the subtraction in your home learning book. Continue until no one is left on the bus. Ask your grown-up to help show you how to write 0.

Start again, but this time where there are 20 passengers on the bus. Move people off the bus by counting back according to the number on the dice. Please record subtraction number sentences in your home learning book.

From 6th June-14th June it is Bicycle Week. Look at the picture of a family riding their bikes. Recently, the Government have been encouraging people to ride their bike. It is a healthy activity for our body. With your grown-up’s permission, can you ride your bike or scooter if you have one at home. You might be able to ride it at home or outside your home with your adult. If you have a tricycle or a different form of transport this is great too. If you do not, please do not worry, you can choose a different form of exercise. Enjoy and have lots of fun!

When you get home from your exercise, please practise reading keywords together on the word cards provided. The words are on bike helmets! To match our Bicycle Week theme. Afterwards, can you write 5 words in your home learning book? Make sure you spell each word correctly. Remember to form your letters carefully.

To celebrate Bicycle Week, can you design your own bike on Purple Mash? What will your bike look like? Can you draw a picture of yourself riding your bike? We look forward to seeing your wonderful pictures.
