Good Morning Acorns,

Thank you for your wonderful Acorn Class Beach paintings.  We have been very impressed with the high quality art work!

First we will be thinking about keywords.  We have been working really hard to learn lots of different words.  We have been using our phonics to help read words but it is also important to be able to recognise words by sight. See how many different words you can read in today’s PowerPoint. We have a fish themed PowerPoint today. The little fish want to see how many words you get right! Good luck.

In Literacy, we will be talking about what people might do at the seaside. Look at the Beach Activities PowerPoint and discuss the different activities. Were people fishing? Swimming? Surfing? Sailing? Ask your grown-up to write down some of the activities. Read the words together. Many are -ing words.  Draw the activity you would most like to do and write a label. Write the activity as an -ing word, e.g. sailing, swimming, etc. Remember to form letters cursively.

In Maths, we will be adding 2, 3 or 4 to a number up to at least 10 by counting on. For this activity we will be using some toy cars and a cardboard box to use as a pretend car park. Depending on the resources you have at home, you may want to use toy dinosaurs or dolls. This activity can be adapted so that you can use a range of resources.

ʻDriveʼ three cars into the car park (cardboard box). Then show two more cars. These cars are going to go and park next. There are 3 cars and count on 2 more, saying, four, five. Check the total. Write 3 + 2 = 5 in your home learning book.

Drive two more cars into the car park. Hold up five fingers, and then two more. Tell me how many cars you think there are in the car park now. Please write the addition number sentence in your home learning book. Repeat, by driving three more cars into the car park. Repeat adding two, three or four cars each time. Make sure you write each number sentence clearly, forming your numbers carefully.

Please watch and listen to a story called The Reef Cup: An important story about friendship. This is the link you will need: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rtqLwqbw30Q Who are the main characters in the story? What happens to Bubbles? How does Blaze try to help her friend? Why did everyone cheer at the end of the story? Blaze received the cup of Sportsmanship. Can you make Blaze a special cup? You may want to decorate a paper or plastic cup. You may want to ask your grown-up if you can decorate a cup in your kitchen cupboard. You may decide to use a small box and pretend it is a cup. The choice is yours! Will you decorate it by drawing little stars to show Blaze what a star she is?  Depending on the resources you have at home, you may want to decorate the cup with different materials, such as old wrapping paper, foil, stickers etc. Blaze will be so happy!

The Acorn Class are very caring. Blaze was kind and thoughtful in the story. Have you ever helped a friend? Draw a picture showing how you have helped a friend on Purple Mash. Remember to use appropriate colours for your picture. If your friend has brown hair, do not choose the purple paint! We will look forward to seeing your wonderful pictures.

We hope you have a great day. Remember to be considerate to your grown-up and say thank you for helping you at home today.
