Acorn Daily Planner - 08.06.20

Monday 8th June 2020

Good Morning Acorns,

We hope you had a great weekend. It was lovely to see your amazing beach huts. Thank you for your all hard work. We have some more exciting activities for you to complete at home this week.

In Literacy, we will be continuing with our sea topic. We have explored rock pools and learnt about the different types of rock pool creatures. This week we will be thinking about the types of activities people like to do at the beach. Have you been to the beach? Please share the Beaches PowerPoint attached with your grown-up. What can you see? Talk about the types of things you might see at the beach. For example, you might see shells on the sea- shore.

Discuss what people do on a beach (fish, sail, play, surf, etc.) What sorts of things do you like to do? Share the Going to the Beach PowerPoint with your grown-up and discuss. If you haven’t visited a beach before, look carefully at the PowerPoint and see which activities you would like to do. Which activity looks most fun?

Choose two different activities and write a sentence about each activity.  You may want to write about what is happening in one of the pictures or write about an activity that you have done at the beach.

Here are a few examples:

The children are building a sandcastle.

The boy has made a sandcastle.

I like to build sandcastles.

I can build a sandcastle.

I enjoy playing with sand.

Remember to write golden sentences. You must include a capital letter, finger spaces and a full stop. Please form your letters cursively.

In Maths, we will be learning to say the number that is one more than a number up to 20 and understand that adding 1 gives us the next number. For today’s activity, you will need to use a set of number cards from 1-20. You can make your own number cards by using paper or card. You will also need a group of 20 toys, such as lego bricks or something that you would enjoy counting at home.

Make a pegged number line using the washing line and pegs and number cards from 1-20. If you would prefer to lay the number cards on the floor, this is also fine. Make a tower if you have lego or duplo at home. You can use other toys at home so please don’t worry. Show on your fingers the number of lego bricks in the tower. Now show the number that is one more. Add one lego brick to the tower and write the matching addition in your home learning book 5 + 1 = 6. Five and one more is six. Find 5 on the washing line and point out that 6 is the next number after 5.  Repeat, this time with 9 lego bricks. Can you show the number that is one more on the washing line? Can you write the addition number sentence in your home learning book? For example, 9 + 1 = 10. Point out how 10 comes after 9 on the washing line. Next, make a tower of 14 lego bricks. Can you show the number that is one more on the washing line? 14 + 1 = 15. Write the addition in your home learning book. Repeat a few more times with different additions. Remember to form your numbers carefully.

In RE, we will be talking about our own experiences of friendship. Who are your friends? You may have friends at school and friends outside of school. What makes a good friend? Discuss this with your grown-up. Watch the video about friendship and discuss. This is the link you will need: Think of how you can be a good friend, such as showing kindness and consideration. Can you draw pictures to show what makes a good friend? For example, you may draw a picture of helping a friend who is upset.

The Acorn Class are very good at using their phonics to help read new words. Please practise blending letter sounds together to read each word in the PowerPoint. Remember to look carefully at the letter sounds as you sound out each word.

We hope you are enjoying our sea topic. We have been designing our own Acorn Class Beach. We have made deck chairs and beach huts to give us shade from the sun. What else do we need? Imagine our beach, can you paint a picture on Purple Mash to show what our beach might look like? We look forward to seeing your great paintings.

We hope you have a wonderful day. Please remember to say a big thank you to your grown-up for helping you at home with your learning.
