Acorn Daily Planner - 20.04.20

Monday 20th April 2020

Good Morning Acorns,

We hope you've had a lovely time with your family over the Easter holiday.  It is now the beginning of the Summer Term and we have an exciting new topic.  Our new topic is all about Space.

In Literacy this week, we will be sharing a story called Man on the Moon by Simon Bartram.  Please ask your grown-up to help you locate the story on the computer.  This is the link you will need: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Rt5zQ1UO6rE   Talk about the events of Bob's day.  Which things do you do in your daily routine like Bob, for example, eating breakfast.  What things does Bob do that we don't? In your home learning book, draw a sequence of events from Bob's day.  Discuss what happens first, second, etc.

In Maths today, we will be practising our counting.  We will be counting up to 100.  We have practised this before, but today we will make sure we are really good at it!  You will need to go on a counting walk with your grown-up.  This can be in your home or garden.  You could do this as part of your daily walk.  You will walk 100 steps together, counting each step.

Afterwards, see if you can write the number 100 in your home learning book.   If you prefer, you could paint the number 100 on a piece of paper or write this number with chalk on the ground.  Can you find 100 items in your home?  This could include toys, pens, pencils etc.

Your first topic activity relates to this week's story, Man on the Moon by Simon Bartram.  We would like you to imagine, if you were going to have a picnic on the moon, what would you eat?  In your home learning book, please draw the food you would take with you for your picnic, e.g. sandwich, fruit, cake etc.

To launch our brand new topic, we would like you to design your own rocket on Purplemash.  With your grown-up, you may want to research different examples of rockets and talk about the size and shape of the rockets.  Which colours will you use for your rocket?  We look forward to seeing your rocket designs!

We hope you have a great day.  Remember to thank your grown-up for helping you with your home learning.
