English -  Jack and the Beanstalk

Can you remember what happened in the last episode we watched yesterday? That’s right, Jack was having a dream. What do you think happened in the night? What will Jack see out of the window? Have you ever seen a beanstalk? Yes you have! You should have your very own beanstalk growing at home!

Episode 7 – And he went higher

• listen and look out for how Jack feels as he climbs the beanstalk

• listen and look out for what Jack climbs past, as he gets higher and higher

Tell your grown-up the answer to these questions

• Why is Jack’s room darker when he wakes up?

• Why are Jack’s new shoes helpful?

• How does Jack feel as he climbs?

• What things does he climb past?

Episode 8 – The castle in the clouds

• listen and look out for what it is like at the top of the beanstalk

• listen and look out for how Jack finds his way to the castle

Tell your grown-up the answer to these questions

• What is it like at the top of the beanstalk? Grown-up talk about the word ‘barren’ which shows that it is a very bare empty land with nothing growing.

• Why do you think Jack shivers when he gets to the top?

• Which animal leads Jack to the path that goes to the castle?

• What is the castle like?

Episode 9 – Fee-Fi-Fo-Fum

• listen and look out for how the Giant’s wife helps Jack

• listen out for what the Giant says

Tell your grown-up the answer to these questions

• How does Jack know the Giant is coming?

• How does the Giant’s wife help Jack?

• What does the Giant say?

• What does the Giant want to do with Jack?

Now complete the sentence matching worksheet.

We know that William the conqueror built the first castles in England. Did you know that he ordered a motte and bailey castle to be built in Warwick in 1068? My friend Pip went to see this castle. Go through the PowerPoint to learn all about his visit.

To see the different rooms for yourself, just like Pip use this link.

You can zoom in and out and turn the picture round to see different angles. Ask your adult to help you. There are many rooms to visit, just click on a room at the bottom and have your own tour of the castle. Which room did you like best? Why? Tell your grown-up.

Handwriting – Long ladder letters

The letters l, I, t, u, j and y are called long ladder letters. That’s because we make an upward movement when we write them. Practise your long ladder letters on the worksheet. Sit correctly – say our poem

One, two, three, four

Feet flat on the floor.

Five, six, seven, eight

Backs up straight.

Nine ten

This is the way I hold my pencil.
