LO: : To identify how the grammatical patterns in a sentence indicate its function as a statement, question, exclamation or command I can spot statements, exclamations and commands Re-read the whole text. Discuss the idea that The only true failure can come if you quit. Sorting Sentences Distribute, on cards, sentences in three different grammatical forms - statements, commands and exclamations that pertain to Rosie (see resource attached to the end of the sequence). Children read their sentence out-loud and class work together to sort into 3 large hoops (hula hoops from the PE cupboard work well for this) that have been labelled: statement, exclamation or command. Leave out for later reference Activity Ask children to devise an exclamation of their own, reminding them that this needs to start with What or How, contain a verb (or imply a verb) and be punctuated with an exclamation mark. Collective Worship – Wednesday’s Word Use the online version of the Wednesday Word. http://www.wednesdayword.org/ Share the Gospel and talk about the picture. What/who do they see? Use the information/questions as talking/discussion points. Ask a child to lead the prayers where possible to promote pupil led collective worship. Do the activities if there is time. |
