History: European slave traders did not let slaves participate (get involved) in Carnival. So when slavery ended, the freed slaves had massive carnivals because now they could. They were free to do as they liked.

Petit escargot  = Little snail

Porte sur son dos sa maisonette. = Carries on his back his little house.

Aussitôt qu’il pleut, il est tout heureux. =  As soon as it rains he is all happy.
