Tuesday 14th July 2020

Good Morning Acorns,

We hope you have enjoyed learning about seahorses.  We will be continuing with our sea adventure today.

We will begin by revisiting our letter sounds. This is the link you will need: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hCBzNnSSxds Then practise saying these sounds in words. We have attached a PowerPoint so that you can practise blending letter sounds together to read words.

Today we will be learning all about crabs. Please watch this video about crabs. This is the link you will need: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6oaEF7Kq_64   Afterwards, share the ‘Crabs’ PowerPoint together and discuss. Can you draw a picture of a crab and write an accompanying label?  You should be able to spell ‘crab’ by using your phonics. Grown-ups please let your child write this word independently. If your child finds this tricky, you might need to help them sound out the word.

In Maths, we would like you to practise adding groups of objects together. Can you create your own addition number sentences?  For example, 4 + 2 = 6.   We would like you to draw pictures to accompany your addition number sentence. For example, you might draw 4 fish and 2 dolphins. Add both groups together to work out the total. It is really important for you to use mathematical language. Say the addition number sentence. For example, 4 add 2 equals 6. Then repeat this task with other additions. The pictures must have a sea theme! Please do at least 5 different additions. We have attached an ‘Under the Sea Addition PowerPoint’ for you to look at as an example. As an extra task, we have attached an Under the Sea Addition sheet for you to complete at home.

Earlier today we were thinking about different letter sounds. It is important for you to be able to form letters correctly. Look at the ‘Cursive Letter Formation PowerPoint’ together with your grown-up. This will show you how to form each letter correctly. Can you practise writing each letter sound cursively? Write the letters of the alphabet, forming each letter cursively. Please do this task in your home learning book. Do not worry if you make a mistake, just keep trying. Please refer to the previous cursive handwriting sheets you have been given.

Today we have been learning about fascinating crabs! Can you design your own crab? Depending on the resources you have at home, you might want to make a 3D model of a crab or paint a picture of a crab. We have attached a ‘Crabs Craft’ PowerPoint to show you some examples of different craft ideas.

Recently we have been thinking about how we can show kindness to others. Please share a story called ‘Be Kind’ with your grown-up and discuss. This is the link you will need: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kAo4-2UzgPo Can you talk about a time when you have shown kindness? Talk to your grown-up about why it is important to be kind.

We hope you have a great day. Remember to say a big thank you to your grown-up for helping you at home with your learning.
