Good Morning Acorns,

We hope you have enjoyed learning about Saint Peter and Saint Paul yesterday. We have seen some amazing paintings of Saint Peter and Saint Paul on Purple Mash. We are really proud of you Acorns!

It was exciting last week to learn about the green sea turtle. This week we are going to be focussing on dolphins. In Literacy, we would like you to learn some interesting facts about dolphins. We will be learning to listen carefully to information and understand simple sentences. Then you will answer some questions about dolphins.

Watch the video with your grown-up and discuss what you have learnt. This is the link you will need: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2776_ah7qb0 After you have enjoyed the video, please look at the ‘Dolphins’ PowerPoint with your grown-up and discuss. Now we would like you to answer some questions about dolphins. We have attached the questions for your grown-up to read to you. Please refer back to the PowerPoint for each question to look for the answer in the text (Grown-ups this is a good way to help develop your child’s understanding).

To get our brains ready for our maths lesson, we would like you to practise counting up to 50. Can you whisper numbers from 1-10, then use a squeaky voice to count from 11-20, a happy voice from 21-30? You can choose which voices you prefer to use. Remember to say each number clearly.

Now you will need number cards from 0-6 and some of your toys from home, such as lego or duplo. We are going to use cubes as an example. Choose a number card, e.g. number 4. Make a tower of cubes according to the number on your card. How many more cubes do you need to make 6? Write the corresponding addition in your home learning book e.g. 4 + 2 = 6. Think about all the ways of making six? Write each addition number sentence in your home learning book.

We are doing really well with our phonics. Start with the phonic game ‘Obb and Bob’. Sound out the real and fake words. This is the link you will need: https://www.phonicsplay.co.uk/resources/phase/2/picnic-on-pluto We will be focussing on the ‘ch’ sound in phase 3. It is important to practise our phonics regularly.

Now we are going to think about a word that has three sounds. Today we would like you to think about words that rhyme with ‘hop’. See if you can write as many different words that rhyme with ‘hop’.  Afterwards, see if you can think of any ‘alien’ words that rhyme with ‘hop’, such as ‘vop’. Alien words are made up, they are not real words. Write a list of alien words in your home learning book.

It is time to get creative! Can you create a dolphin? This can be done in a variety of ways. We have created a ‘Dolphin Craft’ PowerPoint. If you would prefer to paint a dolphin or make a collage this is great. You may want to use to use objects from around your home and create a large representation of a dolphin. This task is about you developing your creativity.

We hope you have a great day. Remember to say a big thank you to your grown-up for helping you at home with your learning.
