Good Morning Acorns,

It was so lovely to see your amazing deck chairs for the Acorn Class Beach! Lots of very stylish deck chairs.

Today in Literacy, we will be learning about how to write a caption.  Play the video of the children at the beach again, looking at a rock pool. This is the link you will need: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v0lb3f750z0 You can always look at our rock pool creatures PowerPoint to look closely at the different rock pool creatures. What looks most interesting? The fish? The crab? Talk about what you would most like to find on a beach. Choose a favourite beach creature, plant or shell. Research some information about this creature, plant or shell with your grown-up.  Then draw it very carefully and write a label and caption to go with your close-observation drawing.  A caption is a short sentence to accompany a picture.  If you choose to focus on a crab, can you write a short sentence about a crab?  Remember to use a capital letter, finger spaces and a full stop.  Please look at the captions PowerPoint with your grown-up.  This gives you a few different examples.

In Maths we will be continuing to count in 10s to 100. How many 10s are there in 100? Look at the hundred square. Count down the 10s column with your grown-up. Who likes spiders? Use a toy spider if you have one or draw a spider and cut it out. Say a spider rhyme, e.g. ʻIncy Wincyʼ or ʻLittle Miss Muffetʼ. Do actions to go with the rhyme using hands as spiders running around.

We will count in 10s to 100 using our spider hands. Start counting: Ten, twenty, thirty, … one hundred. Every time you say a number you should wiggle your spider hands. Grown-ups please emphasise that these numbers are the ʻcup-of-teaʼ numbers where we have reached the end of a row on the grid and so we get a cup of tea: Thirty , forty , fifty , etc. (Emphasise the ty part each time). This helps children to distinguish the multiples of 10 from the teen numbers (thirteen , fourteen , etc.) Repeat the counting down in multiples of 10 several times. 

Reading regularly is really important. Recently, we have read a non-fiction book about a family at the beach. Today we will read a fiction story called Chicken Little. This is the link you will need: https://www.starfall.com/h/ir-folk/skyfall/?sn=ir-folk--im-reading Please use your phonics to help read new words. Many words you may be able to read by sight. Did you enjoy this story? Why? Discuss what happens in the story with your grown-up.

Yesterday you created some wonderful deck chairs for the Acorn Class Beach. It would be lovely for us to each have a beach hut. This will provide shade for us when the sun gets too hot. Can you design your own beach hut on Purple Mash? Will you design it to match your deck chair? We can’t wait to see your creations!
