Good Morning Acorns,

Thank you for your fantastic paintings, you’re working very hard at home.  The Acorn Class are very creative! It is a new day and we have some exciting challenges for you.

Today we will be learning to read and understand simple sentences. Please share How to Catch a Star by Oliver Jeffers with your grown-up again. This is the link you will need: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WTQ8T9lnck8

Please ask your grown-up to write this sentence on a piece of paper: Once there was a boy and the boy loved stars very much. The words need to be written quite big so that your child can easily read each word. Then cut up the sentence so that your child has 12 words. Point at the different words and read the sentence together. Say a word, then ask your child to quickly identify it. Can you show me 'and'? Can you point at the word 'stars'? Next jumble up the words. Can you to reorder the sentence?  If you would like an extra challenge, see if you can write this sentence in your home learning book.

In Maths, we will be continuing to halve even numbers to 10 and begin to relate to corresponding doubles. Today, you will need a coat hanger and some pegs from your washing line. Please don’t worry if you don’t have a coat hanger or pegs, you can use other resources from your home. Shuffle the set of number cards that you used yesterday. You will need number 2, 4, 6, 8 and 10. If you didn’t complete the previous activity, you will need to make some number cards, you just need a pencil and some paper.

Take the first card, e.g. 2. Put this number of pegs on a coat hanger. Then split the pegs into two equal groups. Can you see a double on the coat hanger? Repeat for each card. Ask your grown-up to shuffle the cards again and take a card without showing you the number. Close your eyes whilst your grown-up places that number of pegs on the coat hanger. Then your grown-up will need to cover half of the pegs with a cloth. Open your eyes. Show on your fingers how many pegs you think there are on the coat hanger altogether. Remove the cloth to check. How did you know? Agree that you used doubles, e.g. if you can see 3 pegs, you know there are 6 altogether because double 3 is 6. Repeat for each card.

Your first topic lesson in Personal, Social and Emotional Development is all about reflecting on our behaviour. The Acorn Class are very caring children who know the importance of being kind and considerate to others. Draw two columns in your home learning book or on piece of paper. In one column, please draw how we should behave, e.g. sharing toys, being kind etc. In the other column, the children draw unacceptable behaviour, e.g. kicking a friend etc.
