Good Morning Acorns,

If you have already completed your riverbank reflection work, well done! It has been wonderful to see the paintings. We are pleased that everyone is working so hard at home.

Today in Literacy, please listen to the story called How to Catch a Star by Oliver Jeffers again. This is the link you will need: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WTQ8T9lnck8   Discuss the story with your grown-up. Do you like this story? Why? Look at the boy with his star.  Can you describe how you think he feels? Has he caught a real star? No. How do you know? Draw yourself in the same style as the boy on the last page of How to Catch a Star. This is a nice simple way to draw yourself. What pattern will be on your jersey? Draw a speech bubble and write a short sentence about catching a star. Remember to write a golden sentence.  A golden sentence has a capital letter at the beginning of a sentence.  It has clear finger spaces between words and a full stop at the end of the sentence.

In Maths, we will be learning to halve even numbers to 10 and begin to relate to corresponding doubles. Shuffle a set of number cards 2, 4, 6, 8 and 10. You can always make your own number cards, you just need a pencil and some paper. You are going to find half of each of these numbers. Look at one number card. Build a tower of that number of cubes, and then break it in half. For this activity, you can use Lego, Dulpo, Wooden blocks or anything at home that would be suitable for this task.

Show this number on each hand, e.g. break a tower of eight cubes in half, child shows four fingers on each hand.  Move your hands apart, saying, Half of eight is four. Write in your home learning book: Half of 8 is 4. Yesterday, we were learning about doubles. Grown-ups please remind your child that we know, double 4 is 8. Repeat this activity with the other number cards.

In this week’s story, the boy watched stars from his window and he wished he had one of his very own. On Purplemash, can you paint a picture of the boy watching the stars from his window? Which colours will you use? We look forward to seeing your paintings.

Now it is time for some drama! You are going to role-play the story How to Catch a Star by Oliver Jeffers. Where does the boy look? What does he try to do to help him reach the star in the sky? Try and act out the story by using props. You will need to use objects within your home. Please remember to ask your grown-ups permission before using any objects.

We hope you enjoy today’s activities. Happy learning!
